Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search box is sent to the outside company operating that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its result. We do not keep or record those search terms on our systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
We retain an email sent to us as needed to answer it. The message remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
Our servers receive basic technical details when a page loads:
- The IP address assigned to your device
- Which browser you are using and its version
- Your device type and operating system
- The pages you visited and how long you stayed on each
- The site that sent you here, if any
- Timestamps for each page view
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. They help show broad use patterns, such as popular pages and where visits end. Analytics providers combine this traffic data. A browser can block cookies, although doing so may change how some features work.
What We Do With This Data
- Tracking down and fixing technical issues
- Routing a search request to the selected partner
- Maintaining site availability and performance
- Showing ads that may line up with your interests
- Learning which pages are useful and which need improvement
No Criminal-Record Data on File
We do not compile, keep, or sell a database of personal criminal records. Clinton County guidance points readers to Sheriff Records, Iowa District Court, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, and the Iowa Sex Offender Registry. Visitor data is not assembled into a consumer report or a record about another person, and this resource is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies power the search boxes. A partner’s privacy policy, retention choices, and sharing rules apply to data submitted through its tool. We do not control those practices, so review the applicable policy before running a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to the Clinton County sheriff, Iowa courts, state agencies, legal resources, or outside search services. After leaving our pages, the destination’s privacy policy controls. Read it before providing personal information.
Advertising companies may use their own systems to follow activity across websites and select ads. Their tracking is not operated by us.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be available to:
- Search partners that handle queries you run on our site
- Analytics services we use to track traffic and performance
- Ad networks that place ads on our pages
- Law enforcement or government bodies when a valid legal order requires it
How We Protect Your Data
Standard safeguards protect the data we collect. No internet-connected service can guarantee perfect security, and we cannot promise that a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
This resource is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If we learn that a minor supplied such data, we will remove it.
Your Data Rights
Your location may provide rights beyond those described here. Iowa’s consumer-fraud protections appear in Iowa Code section 714.16. Public criminal-history dissemination is governed separately by Iowa Code chapter 692, and government-record access follows the Iowa Open Records Law in chapter 22. Subject to applicable law, you can:
- Ask for a copy of what we have on file about you
- Have us fix information that is wrong
- Request that we erase your data
- Opt out of certain kinds of data processing
Updates to This Policy
This policy may change. A revised version will appear here with a new effective date, so review the page periodically for current practices.
